Stop and Check

Stopping at specific areas
If there is a stop sign at an intersection, cyclists must stop before the stop line (just before the intersection if there is no line).

After stopping, make sure it is safe before proceeding.

Important road signs for cyclists and what they mean

  • Stop
    Cyclists must stop before the stop line.

    Cyclists must travel slow enough to brake promptly.
  • No Bicycles
    Bicycles are not allowed.
  • Road Closed
    The road is closed to pedestrians, vehicles, and bicycles.
  • No Vehicle Traffic
    The road is closed to vehicles and bicycles.
  • No Light Vehicle Traffic
    The road is closed to light vehicles, including bicycles.
  • Closed to Traffic
    Vehicles and bicycles may not enter.
  • One Way
    Vehicles and bicycles can travel in the direction of the arrow.
  • Pedestrians Only
    The street is open to pedestrians only and bicycles are not allowed.
  • Bicycles and Pedestrians Only
    The street is open to bicycles and pedestrians only.
  • Bicycles Only
    The street is open to bicycles only.

Wear a life-saving helmet

From 1st, Apr, 2023, according to the law, every person must try to wear a bicycle helmet when bicycle is used.
There are many cases of cyclists getting involved in a traffic accident and injuring their head resulting death.

Under the Road Traffic Law, cyclists are requested to wear a bicycle helmet regardless of their age.

(Caution)For all cyclists, please wear a bicycle helmet when using a bicycle to reduce the damage caused by a traffic accident.

If you are involved in a traffic accident...

You must do the following.

  1. Stop immediately.
  2. Administer first aid to the injured.
    Help the injured to move to a safe place, call 119, and administer first aid until a doctor or medic arrives.
  3. Take measures to prevent further hazards on the road
    Take measures to prevent a series of accidents, including moving vehicles and the injured away from the scene.
  4. Report to the police
    Call 110.

Reporting the accident

  • Public payphone
    You can call 119 and 110 without paying from a public payphone.
    Pick up the receiver and press the red button on the machine.
    (Some telephones may not accept this type of call or require a different way of calling emergency numbers.)
  • Mobile Phone
    Dial 119 or 110 on your mobile phone.
    Be sure to state your location and mobile number.
