"110" EMERGENCY CALLS
When you are involved in a crime or a traffic accident, please call "110." ( No charge to call the police.)
When a dispatcher answers your call, please tell them:
- whether a crime or a traffic accident
- what happened to you
and they will ask you necessary questions in order. So, pleases stay calm and answer them.
If you call “110” with a smartphone contracted in Japan, the GPS information is transmitted to the police. (A smartphone with a global roaming agreement may not be able to make a “110” emergency call.)
In case you are indoors or the GPS fails to identify your location, a police officer asks you questions to find your current location such as the name of your apartment, your room number or a landmark including a shop, an intersection, a station nearby, or the number on the blue sticker labeled "OPP" on a traffic signpost and others.
If we cannot understand your language, we will put you through to an interpreter, so please do not hang up and stay on the line.
After finishing your call, please stay safe and wait until a police officer arrives.
“110” is an emergency phone number. If you need assistance from the police for non-urgent matters, such as reporting your lost items, please go to a police station or a police box near you.
